Grace Chapman Westlake’s 1934 Daily Diary – typed
as written. Day and then a number, for unknown reason, are recorded at beginning
of each day. JANUARY 1 - Mon 2 – Tue 2 1
day eggs 30 ct Posy & Mrs Yokey came down we played bridge had a lovely
talk. I have an invitation to a shower to Mary Parkers for Rozella fri night
the men are all going to stay with Grover. Mr Anscon & Mr Parker Mrs Tracy
& Jackie called today. Took minne for a ride 3 – Wed 20 Went to Pontiac See Mrs Galbrath she gave me
$10 then we went up town & got Rozella 2 baby shirts 69 ct a piece. Went
to Rozella for supper she had Roast-Chicken & cherry pie 4 – Thur 26 Mrs Cob got 2 qt milk this morning looks like
some snow or rain. 86 indian head pennies
Got our bread & cakes going to get 1.00 worth of cake’s & bread next week 5 – Fri Mary came & Martha & Mary then & gave
them some cakes took them home Then went to Posy’s shower she got a lot
of things Drove the Essex up Mrs Yokey drove it over to Mary Parke’s. Cloudy. Gave Mary & Martha 50 ct
a piece 6 – Sat 13 Cloudy
Went to The Oak took that shirt down to Mary’s that Martha sent to the boys 7 – Sun 7 Nobody came today. Staid home all day gloomy day snowing tonight. Buss took Ms
Cobb to work 8 – Mon 14 Cloudy but warm.
Buss is washing Dad hanging them up
The cloth did not get dry. 9 – Tue 16 Ironed the cloth did not get dry 10 – Wed 20 Cloudy cool only freezing. Will Ray Hildegard & baby & Vily came they brought the bread & cake $1.00 worth so I won’t
have to go till a week after next Ray was crabby tonight. Mended Georges overall 2 pair & 3 shirts. 11 – Thur 17 Why don’t you stay at home. And I’ll “Come up and see me sometime.” Be
sure and come up as I am not to ride very far anymore. Went to All he got home
about 4:45. Alberta calls her dad Old man
Sun Shine Paid Taxes 36.38 12 – Fri 24 Sun
shone a little today looking for Emily tonight. Emily did come Joe said I reneged
but I did not we were playing hearts. Bus sharpened Joseph’s & Tommy’s
skates. 13 – Sat 28 Went
up to Emily. They were up town. She
got new shoes & overshoes. I got 2 games of hearts Joe & I beat playing
bridge as we were coming home there was a few snow flurries a wire came off the car and it looked as if it was all a fire
underneath. 14 – Sun 12 Cloudy
Went over to Julia & Wills Em is there she has got the rheumatism in her
hip & knee. She says Martha has been sick again. 15 – Mon 14 Sun
shone this morn & again This afternoon Cooler tonight. Buss killed 2 roosters. 16 – Tue 21 Sun
shone a little 2 day. Dad started the furnace it’s mite cold tonight. Had chicken & brussels & cream pie for dinner. 17 – Wed 20 Cold the sun shone a little while did not feel very good had roast chicken & pudding
suet 18 – Thur 12 Sun
shone a little while boiled chicken apple pudding. Dad bought the leather’s
2 of them 35 ct Went to Posy’s shower had a good time Lots to eat 2 kinds
ice cream 3 kinds cake & coffee got home 1:30 19 – Fri 10 Lovely
day Sun is shining just did not get up till 9:30
Emily & Joe came, we played hearts & bridge 20 – Sat 7 Lovely
day Went to Emily’s played bridge & hearts 21 – Sun 9 Lovely
day Sold all of the milk & eggs today
Mrs McMaine came for milk 22 - Mon 11 Cloudy & damp raining tonight 23 – Tue 21 Cloudy
snowing this morning real bright & nice now. Buss is washing it turned out
so nice I want to go to the Royal Oak Market tomorrow. 24 – Wed 23 Lovely
day Went to Mary’s the children were all there gave Charles 25 ct &
Cameron so did dad he gave them 20 ct apiece. Buss got the gasket for his old
car he bought from McGraff. Dad fixed the hub so it won’t leak 25 – Thur 26 I
borrowed 3.00 from dad. Went down to the church to the show. It was good. Went to Utica, got feed, bread & cakes. See a number of people I knew at the play. 26 – Fri 28 Scrubed
the boys room. Lovely day. Buss
is trying to toe the old car home. Got it home, took it back again. I don’t know what for. Joe & Emily came & children. 27 – Sat 30 Cloudy this morning. Looks like rain. Went up to Mrs Galbriths. She gave me $10. Went to Market. Got a bushel apples 70 ct, dry onions 15, popcorn 15. Went
to see Posy, the Dr says she is OK. She looks real good. 28 – Sun 17 Sun
shone this morning. Storming just horrible this afternoon. Buss made him a truss today. It is storming so hard you can’t
see Dean’s house. 10 pm, still storming. 29 – Mon 19 The
sun is real bright & nice today but it is cold 2 above zero last night it is going to be 2 below zero tonight. 30 – Tue 42 Lovely
day but cold. Tarable cold about zero. 31 – Wed 37 Nice
this morning. It has got tarable windy this afternoon. Sunny and a little snow. Rosvell say it was the best birthday
he ever remembers. That was yesterday.
John & Betty & Vervalee were here. Mrs Anscomb & Mr Treesdale
& The bus driver Thorton, Tony Mcgraff, Mrs ?meir FEBRUARY 1 – Thur 22 Looked
for All (Albert Westlake), he never came so we went to Utica & got our bread & cake.
Henry, Jock and family they brought Margret home. We got a nice lot of
bread & cakes Bus got his rubbers he left over there last week. 2 – Fri 39 Nice
day. The ground hog see his shadow. Paid Dad the $3.00 I borrowed. Emily &
Joe came & children. Mr Trusdale got 2 doz eggs. We will get 6 weeks bad weather. 3 – Sat 17 Nice
day. The sun shone. Julia &
Will came here. Car broke down so I let her take the Essex for today & tomorrow. Buss went with Flo peddling. They did
not sell out. Gave her a little cake & a pail of milk. 4 – Sun 9 Jest
lovely this morn. Sun so bright. Went
up to Rozella Grover was working he got home about 4:30 we got home about 8 o’clock. 5 – Mon 28 Sun shone a little it snowed this morning &
snowed tonight. Ell & Manley came Julia & Will came. The Bus driver Thorton waits 2 day eggs. Julia did not get
her car fixed so they had to keep the Essex. 6 – Tue 35 Buss
washed today snowed off & on all day Julia & Will came she did not get her car yet she said she would bring back the
Essex tomorrow night Dad pressed 3 pair of pants & washed his sweater. 7 – Wed 27 Got
the ironing done at 11 o’clock the sun has started to shine real cold. Went
to Utica Goldia came with Billie when we got home. All (Al), Eviln (Evelyn),
Mr Devine & Alberta, then Julia Bill brought home the Essex. All (Al) could
not get his car started so Buss took the Essex to get his car started. 8 – Thur 27 8
below at 8 this morning. Tarable cold.
The trouble is over in France 8 or 10 below tonight. 9 – Fri 26 Julia
& Will came. He got 5 doz eggs They
got milk. Emily did not come Tarable
cold 20 below zero last night. Buss & Dad washed the kitchen walls. I cleaned up after the men. Baked 3 loaves
of bread it was tarable slow to cold. 10 – Sat 31 Julia
& Will came this morning Jhonkin? & Vervalle were here today. Scrubed
the floors. Lovely day. Warmed up
today. They say it will be warmer tomorrow. 11 – Sun 16 Went
up to Posy. Grover was working. Mr
& Mrs Yokey were there. Lovely day not so cold got home at 10 o’clock. Told Posy I would come up next Sat. 12 – Mon 10 Not
so cold 13 above. Rained & snowed.
Buss went down to the corner for a while. 13 – Tue 13 Beautiful
day looks nice out to night 10 or 20 above zero. There were 2 real estate men
here today Findley & Denice 14 – Wed 14 Lovely
day. Buss nearly sawed the end off of his finger.
Dad took part of the hup to Harry to fix it. George went to the Shrine
Circus at the fairgrounds. 10-20 he has not got home yet. Buss has gone to the corner. 15 – Thur 21 Went
to Utica. Nobody there but grand pa & Aslie.
Lovely day but the wind is cold about 8 above zero. 16 – Fri 15 Went
up to Brown City drove about 150 miles came back to Posey’s & she was sick so I staid she wanted me to the nurse
was there all night. 17 – Sat 15 Posy
is tarable sick we wen down to Marys she is better she put in a tarable night. I
believe she walked 5 miles or more she put in a tarable. Keith has got a pony
he thinks he paid to much. Tom & Georgia were down I was not here I think
if Posy gets over this it will be a mercal. 18 – Sun 15 Tarable
night last night Posys Baby is a boy he weighs jest 8# he is lovely jest as white & nice.
Went down to let Mary know she was tarable worry. Virginia came out to
Posy this morn. Mr Main came after milk.
Gave dad 3.00 I owed him 5.00. Baby was born 4-13 a.m. 19 – Mon 20 Buss
went up to try & get work took 2 shirts & glass tube qt of pears
to Posy. The car froze up so we have no alchal in any he says seemed all right 20 – Tue 22 Gave
Dad 1.00 more That leaves 1.00. Buss washed 8 below zero but the temperature
is rising glad. Warmer 25 above. Buss
washed today got part of the ironing past. 21 – Wed 23 15
above look nice outside. They say over the radio it will be 18 to 20 above. Went up to Posys I think she has got a little fever yet her baby is jest crazy wont
water. Emily went down to Posy this morning done the Moring? it was so hot I could not stay very long. Paid Dad the 1.00 22 – Thur 22 Sun
shone a little while but it is snowing real hard Julia & Will stopped a little while to night it is cold 8 above zero. 23 – Fri 28 Cold
below zero. 24 – Sat 30 5
below zero Went to see Posy she was feeling fine.
Tom & Georgia & Keith gave Dad 5.00 bought bread & cake’s.

& Joe came down cold tonight. Could have sold 2 qt more if I had had it. 26 – Mon 7 Snowing
a little fine snow looks as if it would last sun shone a little while to day it is going to be zero to night Dad quit taking the times to much expense. 27 – Tue 9
5 below zero this morning lovely day but cold the sun is real bright. 28 – Wed 13 Lovely day
Went to Pontiac did not get to Posys till 4-15 Thought we would never
get there. Mrs Tracy was over 1 hour at noon.
Grover got home before we came away 40 above zero. Winter’s sun
got in an auto accident – hurt real bad. MARCH 1 – Thur 19 Buss
went to Pontiac to see if he could get work. Mrs Tracy said the Winter’s
boy had transfusions & about 75 stitches. Buss has not got home yet. Emily & Joe came, played bridge. They
say Buss got a job he is working tonight. 2 – Fri 23 Mary
came on the 10 o’clock bus then we took her up to Posey’s & over to Utica.
Posy seems real well. Rainy tonight. 3 – Sat 35 Cloudy
& looks like rain. It is not freezing.
They say the Winter’s boy has o even chance to get better so Mrs Tracy say’s Little Jerry calf was born
to Mili at 10 o’clock. Paid Dad the $6.00 I owed him. 4 – Sun 13 Went
up to see Posy she was up at her dinner out in the dining room. Georgia &
Tom & Keith was there. Left 6 doz eggs up to Posy’s the wind up to
Posy’s is tarable. 5 – Mon 15 Went
over to Utica we only got bread no cake so I gave Viola 25 ct more for bread & cake again this sat. I had 25 ct coming from last week. We are invited to Margret’s
birthday party. 6 – Tue 17 Cold
this morning froze up. Dad washed this morning.
George hung up the colored clothes it is so windy can’t keep them on the line.
It will be 15 or 20 above zero. Gave McMan his extra qt milk. 7 – Wed 15 Went
to Hines. They were at home. Came
back to Tom’s he got home 5-15 we staid to supper she had pie cake smoked ham beans & meat lettuce potato solid
potato & milk gravy bread & butter. 8 – Thur 20 Got
the ironing done Buss worked today. 9 – Fri 24 Cold
today 10 above zero Emly & Joe came & the kids. They stamped all of my
egg cartons 250. Manley’s father was buried two day we never knew he was
dead till about 11 hour before his funeral. 10 – Sat 31 We
are invited to a bunco party for Margret birthday party paid for the wheat to Bill & Ray.
I got 2 55# wheat Dad gave Ray 3.50 gave them 52 to much. 11 – Sun 22 Lovely
day got 2 duck eggs froze. Posy came I was looking for them gave Dad the 2.00
I owed him. John & Bettie & Vervalle were here. Cold yet tonight. Sent 10 doz back with her. Posy gave me the 1.50 for 6 doz eggs she sold last week. Buss
worked. 12 – Mon 26 Storming
tarable. Buss went to work it is about 15 – 20 above. Got the house warmed up at last. It seems good it is not going
to be freezing tonight. Been snowing. 13 – Tue 30 Warm
today. Ell & Manly came. They
want to sell their cow. She will be in in May they want $40 for her. About 15 above. Buss worked. 14 – Wed 32 Lovely
day wind is cold the sun is warm. 15 – Thur 29 Windy
not so cold not freezing. 16 – Fri 24 Lovely
day. Emily came we went over to Tuckers their baby is lovely McGarff did not
pay for one qt milk. 17 – Sat 30 Dad
paid for feed. I gave him 1.20. I
owe dad the bread & cake man never came. Snowing jest tarable. Went to Emily’s. Ester was there. Grover came he say’s Posy has got to have an operation in about 90 days the baby has a cold. 18 – Sun 36 Lovely
day the sun is so bright. Mr Sord’s brother was killed last night at 11
o’clock. Little calf is 2 weeks last night John J Hunts preached for Father
Coughlen he was sick. 19 – Mon 28 Julia
& Em came she got 4 qt milk. 20 – Tue 31 Bill
Ray Baby Viola Hildgard & Helen were here tonight brought mover our bread. Dad
done the wash. 11 o’clock Buss has not got home yet. 21 – Wed 46 Got
the ironing done at 12 o’clock. Julia was here. Cold tonight 15 above zero. Our car froze up we were 1 hour
& 40 minutes coming home from hall. Alberta is real sick with the mumps. She calls them the bumps. 22 – Thur 50 This
is Buss pay day 10 above zero nobody came today. 23 – Fri 54 This
is dad’s day he & George washed the dining room. The President is holding
the strike off 15 to 20 tonight. They
got 1 pail fri McGraff owes for 2 pails today. 24 – Sat 50 Buss
gave me 3.50 he owed one. Buss gave George 10.
Buss owes George $30 yet. There is 6 doz at Posy’s left 7 doz at
Emilys sold the kids all over 20 ct a doz they could have guess they aren’t worth that much. 25 – Sun 5 Lovely
day but cold. Went to see John. Then
to Mary. She has had 2 teeth out. McGraff
was here a little while today. 26 – Mon 9 Snowed
all day. Dad started the furnace again.
The house seems so damp. 10:30 snowing yet. 27 – Tue 11 Buss
was 2 ½ hours getting home last night. Don’t know how Tom or All got home. Buss says there are cars all along the road.
It was noon before the snow plow went through. Some snow drifts are 15
in deep about 15 above. 28 – Wed 13 3
above early this morning. To about 15 above is expected. 29 – Thur 17 Turned
out read nice the snow is going fast. 30 – Fri 21 Will
came this morning brought me a 1# honey & 5 nice apples. Buss goes to work
3:30 31 – Sat 23 Lovely
day warm. Went uptown sold 22 doz eggs 20 ct a doz. APRIL 1 – Sun 7 Nice
day the sun shone. All Eveline & Mr Devive & Alberta were here. 2 – Mon 11 Went
to Utica got bread & oyster shells. Staid to Hildgards to supper 3 – Tue 9 Set
wudol hen on 13 eggs Rained a lot today 4 – Wed 6 Dad
Posy & Grover went to a restling match. I took care of the baby Raymond &
he never made a bit of noise for 4 ½ hours. Agg Bert Ester Sonny Joe & Emily
Joseph Grace & Tommy came. 5 – Thur 8 Dad
washed today the cloths all got dry. Went to a sail it jest poured so we came
home. Got some Cod liver oil for sparkey.
Got a sack Pilbrss flour. Sunny yet 10 night. Will & Julia were here. 6 – Fri 8 Got electric bill 5.23 Julia & Will were here. He got 1 gal milk. Add Bert Ester & Sonney Mary & Herbie came Joe & Emily never came Will got a gal of milk. 7 – Sat 5 Lovely
day Julia & Will stopped they got another gal milk Went to Emily’s
Tommy was sick they could not come down We played bridge Joe & I got one
game We ? 8 – Sun 2 Lovely
day. Baked 2 apple pies cake 2 pans of biscuits.
Buss dressed a hen though she had a broken leg he says. ? sold 15 dz eggs out at the road. This has been
a lovely day. McMain came at 9:30 for milk. 9 – Mon 2 Went
got feed. Did not get any bread today or cakes
Mrs Tracy was over a little while tonight. 10 – Tue 9 Went
to Rochester. Set the red hen on 15 eggs.
All brown eggs. Got 2 new wash draines pare of gloves Ell & Manley came we went to Aggs their over to Wills & Julia.
Rained this morning & some more tonight 471 paid electric bill Buss gave George 15 that leaves 15 Set hen on 15 eggs. 11 – Wed 18 Ground
is covered with snow. Sick this morning went to Bee shower she got all of 30
or $35 worth of stuff we had such a good time played bunco there were 3 prizes. Deloris
1 prize. Be got door prize. 12 – Thur 25 Ground
is covered with snow cold snowed all day. Will & Julia were here tonight. 13 – Fri 28 We
have had about 30 50 snow storms today. The ground is covered with snow Joe & Emily came & Agg & Bert Agg
has a pain in her back 14 – Sat 25 Ground
is covered with snow the wind is tarable cold baked a apple pies & 4 loaves of bread.
Old jerseys calf is 7 weeks old today. Mrs Tracy was over today 2 times. We are going to have new neighbors over by Tracy 15 – Sun 13 Cloudy
& gloomy Buss is fixing the tractor 4 o’clock raining Buss has got the tractor all ready for work rained all day. 16 – Mon 21 Dad
washed Buss was fixing the tractor George
was raking the yard. We went over to Wills & Julia We played bridge Joe & Emily and children were over to
Julia & Wills last night. Little calf is one week old today bull 17 – Tue 23 Mrs
Cob went to the hospital today her ear has kept getting worse for 2 weeks. Bus
driver got 2 dz eggs he brought his little boy with him to see Sparkey. Lovely
day. 18 – Wed 20 Lovely
day I gave McGraff a pail of milk. Mrs McMain came Dad can’t seam to make
the tractor run. Buss says Posy has not got to have an operation. They had the baby sercumsides. 19 – Thur 16 Lovely
day dad spilt the greese tools on the floor a mess look’s as if I had it
to clean it up. Dad planted peas beets radishes spinach carrots lettuce Went over to see Anscon about selling his 10 achers. 20 – Fri 18 Went
over to Agg. Emily & Joe & children came over to Aggs snowed. 21 – Sat 19 Went
to Pontiac took Anscon up did not get much done Posy & Grover & Raymond came this morning raining a little Went to Julia & Wills Em was there Emily & Joe &
children Agg & Bert Estie Sonney Mary & Herbie we played bridge had a
good time. 22 – Sun 11 Raining
cold & damp Buss & George went to the show Buss went to Deans got 100# scratch feel 1.75 23 – Mon 15 Rained 24 – Tue 8 Went
to Utica got feed 535 Dad paid for it I gave him 235 so I owe him 3 Snowed & rained freezing. 25 – Wed 22 Went to Royal Oak Lovely day 26 – Thur 30 Rained
today. The lady came after milk she says Mrs Oconor milk is so dirty she can’t
drink it. They could not get the tractor started. 27 – Fri 29 Cold
& the wind blows been freezing all day Emily & Joe came Julia & Will Obo & Bettie Vervalie. Mrs Tracy came & staid about an hour. Set the duck eggs. 28 – Sat 28 Lovely
day went to see Galbroth he gave me $10 Went to Tom’s they were not at home then to Posys They took the baby up to the Dr he was not in but he sure looks good to what he did a week ago then we
went out to Emily’s it was very peaceable there. 29 – Sun Went
to Mary’s. Joe & Em & kids they all had a good time. Mr Tucker was here this day. The new bearing Buss put in burnt
out lovely day. 30 – Mon 24 Churned
2# butter Dad washed George hung up the cloth Buss tried to get the Essex fixed
did not so he drove the Hurp to work hope he don’t reck it. Dad & George are plowing. MAY 1 – Tue Went
to Pontiac took Mr Anscomb George & tare buying 10 acres at 100 & acr. Gave
him $110 down lovely day $5 is mine $5 is George’s Will Ray Hildgard Viola
& Hellen & Boby came over They had to go home at 9-45 to get Arty at
the gas station. 2 – Wed 22 Lovely
day Mrs Tracy was here 2 times today I
see the laundry man for her. Dad planted some more seed today. 3 – Thur 28 Took
Anscoub up to garage for hes got the 10 acers all stranted up paid 500.00 & last.
After we came back from uptown Years taxes Warm 4 – Fri 38 Warm Emily & Joe & children came the old while here keeps picking the little chicks. Buss went up to the Pontiac. Dad paid
$5 on his stuff today lovely day The
old white hen has got 14 ck 5 – Sat 39 Went
over to B’ham got our check cashed $95 Lovely day Went up to Emily All & Eviln were there Lovely day 6 – Sun 27 Lovely
day Tom & Georgia & Keith came we went over to see George’s 10
achers. They left about 4-30. 7 – Mon 23 Lovely
day went up to Posys I was sick so I went out to Mrs Drops she helped me a lot. 8 – Tue Tarable
sick all night. Did not sleep any. Julia
Mrs Tracy Mrs Knight & Mrs Twesdle all came to see one Julia got the Essex to use awhile
Will is away spray it. 9 – Wed 20 Feel
a little better this morn Looks like rain had a few sprinkles this morn early The man came from Royal Oak got 8 doz eggs & 25 ct milk. The tractor is running fine. Parker was over he wanted me
to buy his old Ford top for 2.00 10 – Thur 20 Emily
& Joe came Got 15 eggs to set a white hen.
Mrs Twesdale called. The sand storm is still blowing Julia wants the Essex till tomorrow at 3 o’clock. Then
we are going over to Utica. 11 – Fri 7 Went
to Utica got bread had such a lovely we then we went by Julia she came home with us took the Essex back so she would have
it for Sat to peddle 12 – Sat Went
up with the eggs staid to Emilys to supper had such a lovely supper. Stock yards burned at Chicago. 13 – Sun 18 Set
12 duck eggs Set 15 hen eggs the hen don’t want Rained a little. 14 – Mon Julia
came she has been to Detroit to see if she can get her car the car is there
but the wheels are gone & tires her throat has got so bad she cannot
hardly speak Buss washed he was all done at 10 o’clock went to the Oak
got repairs for the tractor. 15 – Tue Bought
2 pigs $7 Buss bought a pony 40 Bert
& Agg came Julia throat broke All here morning they got Julia car back
last night Bert got it 11-30 last nite
Posy brought me a garanium & one of those tin? flowers & a black Petunia
Emily gave me a snake tonic plant Georgia & Tom a lovely card. 16 – Wed 32 Posy
& Emily & Raymond came this morning the lady came for milk from the beaver Went
over to Ells Manly was home while we were gone. Agg Bert Soney Ester & Herbie
& Mary Then Aunt Julia came she left $50 & got 2# butter Mr Huskin died today. 17 – Thur 32 Went
over to Utica did not get any bread Emily & Joe came down & then came over to Grandpa’s. 18 – Fri 32 Buss
& I went to Pontiac. The Winters boy died today Emily & Joe & All & Evilen came. Joseph &
Tom have got to ride the poney so has Alberta but Grace is afraid of her. 19 – Sat 11 20 – Sun All
the kids were home but Posy we had a lovely day little warmer I am tired tonight. No rain. Emily brought 2 large cakes,
Mary one, Georga 1 cake loaf bread Evline 2 cherry pies they were lovely. All the kids had a good time on the Pony. 21 – Mon 6 Buss
churned 5# butter Lovely day, no rain.
Dad & George was weeding all day & it was so hot. Dad got blisters
on his fingers. 22 – Tue 9 I
sewed a little last night. Lovely day nice & cool real cool today. Buss took the little heifer calf over to the wood, little bull calf is sick. 23 – Wed 33 Set
one hen today red. Lovely day Went
over to Julia got the Essex to go & get feed. They are coming to get the
Essex at 10-30 24 – Thur 31 Julia

Dad got a horse sold the large heifer $40.00 Rained last night. 25 – Fri 4
weeks today since we set the hen on duck eggs in the basement. Lovely day went
to see Mary gave her 2 qt pickle Cilles she says she never felt better than she does & the Winter’s boy was burred
today. There was a lady from the Beaver got Milk 20 & cream 35 26 – Sat 10 Mrs
McLean got 2 doz Galbreth’s got 2 doz

Will Ray Viola Hildgard Margret & Helen came over they brought the bread I think it very kind of them We played bridge Emily & I got 3 Viola & Hildgard

They took the horse back & we brought the cow back. Mrs Galbreth gave

Julia came got some milk brought the Essel home she has got her car all fixed up after Wills blow out. Calf would not drink his milk. Wednesday hen eggs supposed

day got the ironing done mad 2 apple pies & a cake went to Pontiac see Mrs & Mr Galbrith. Staid to All to supper they had hanky pudding & strawberries cookies to potatoes bread & butter. Emily & Joe came down & Tom & Grace they got 15 eggs to set a hen. No rain. 30 – Wed 8 Lovely
day hot windy no rain Emily & Joe came abt 9-30 PM They had been down to decorate little Bobbies grave she see so many people she knew two little goats borne

Buss got angel home for the tractor. Dad got his plants but they are in
a tarable shape Buss dragged the corn over on Georges place. George Stillwell & his wife were in an otto axident. JUNE 1 – Fri 11 Tarable
hot & dry I think this is the hottest day this year. 2 – Sat 11 Emily

came over the 10 oclock buss. Buss has been cul?work all the day with the pony. We took Mary home did not see the boy’s.

all went out Toms All & Evelin did not go Bell & Tom were to to supper Grace
fell off of the pony & hert her back & elbow. 18 – Mon 22 Raining
a nice slow rain all the 4 noon the boys are setting out plants cool tonight. John
& Bettie were here they got 2 qt milk 19 – Tue 34 Lovely
day 2 years today since little Bobbie was killed Dad has Anscombs house today Buss planted a bushel of soy beans for the cows. 20 – Wed 57 Milk

& Bettie were here they want 3 qt milk. 22 – Fri 34 Cool
& cloudy the radio sounds like a storm. Joe & Emily came down this eve Grace has not come home from Keiths yet she has been there since Sun Went to Utica got bred & cake 2 ½ gal milk. 23 – Sat 51 Tom
came brought the pig took the goats back Keith thinks he is going to drive there. There is 1.15 in cup. Grace went up town
with us then we went out to Posys they got a showey car it is swell. Took the
little bull calf over to the woods. I got 100# shugar 4.94 24 – Sun 48 The
pony died today Buss & Tommy McGraff burred her we don’t know what killed her I
am jest sick from her dying sold all the milk 7 ct strength now 28 a gal. 25 – Mon 26 – Tue 22 Went
up to Galbreth they gave us $15. Bettie & John came they got 3 qt milk. We had a lovely rain it hailed came by All they were gone away then we came by Emily’s
she was all alone 27 – Wed 12 Hot
to day muggy could have sold over 3 gal more milk to day. 28 – Thur 6 Buss
& Tommy went fishing Tommy has a burn on his foot guess it is quite bad. Could have sold 3 or 4 more gall of milk than we had
Dad went to market he never tells me what he gets guess it can’t be very much tarable hot. 29 – Fri 3 Bought 3 ½ gal milk 70 Dad & George are putting up a load for market had a few sprinkles & it is as hot as before tarable
hot. 30 – Sat 7 Got
feed 6.40 Went to Royal Oak got the gro
Viola all the folks came from Utica but Margrot Emily & Joe All & Evilen Posy & Grover came we made 1 ½ gal of
ice cream Dad got a large watermelon. Joe
gave Dad $15 on what he owed us. |
